I’m writing this note so that in future, if I ever forget the sacrifice done by my parents (naudzubillahiminzalik..) , I know that their love for us are infinite..
It was a usual weekly phone conversation with my mum, in fact I was late 2 days than usual to phone her. So today I decided to call her and she was in dyslexic school in Penang. I don’t know if I am too obsessed with ‘dyslexic’ word, but to be honest, I just can’t help myself. The dyslexic child is my sister, whom I love sooo much. After a few months searching for the best education centre for dyslexic children in Malaysia, my parents finally found one in Penang. Alhamdulillah..at least it was not too far from my house. My mum was telling me that she decided to enroll my sister into the school. I was shocked, not because I was ashamed she’ll be in special school, but the fact that Penang and my house is not too short a distance, I was like asking my mum if she is serious about this decision. She said that if this is the best for my sis, then why not?

At the back of mind, I was imagining the hassle that my parents have to endure if they were to send her there.. having to spend a lot of money on petrol and toll fee, enduring the massice traffic jam in Penang and other ‘perkara remeh’ .. if I were in their shoes, I would not want to place myself into troubles. My dearest friend once told me that , “I know Yan, you never had a hard time in your life and you won’t bite off more than you can chew.”

Each and everyone of us declares that we are Muslim, that we believe in the Quran, but our actions sometimes contradict it. It will be more disheartening if we are members of an Islamic Movement, we call ourselves dai’e or pejuang Islam or whatnot, and yet our actions belie the commandments that we said we believe in, the Quran.
No i am not saying i am perfect by writing this, i have my own shortcomings and mistakes, but for us to repeat the same behaviour three times, for me that is unacceptable.
Haven’t we read as-Saff, chapter 61 verse 2 and 3?
Quran 61:2-3

How time flies. Three weeks of Christmas break had left me with all the sweetest and bitterness of life in this chilly season. It is the second term of school already. And Allah has set His plan beautifully for me. I am so fortunate to have my placement close to where I stayed. Off I started my rotation with General Practice placement.
The journey to my GP surgery took me about 20 minutes of cycling. It was not that bad, really. The traffic is forgiving. The weather as always, varies with its whims. Alhamdulillah, the first day I went to the surgery, as sheepish as I was, the doctors and their secretaries welcome me into the “family” with the greatest and warmest welcome I ever had! After short introduction and briefing about how the system works, our learning session begin. What struck me so much that day was the moment when I stared across the wall where I sat in the consultation room. My doctor was out, calling for her patient. Talking to myself, I said “MasyaAllah, it was indeed lovely how Allah wanted to remind me of Him”.
Hanging on the wall across the room was a well-transcribed poem in a wooden frame. And the poem goes like this..(I am a big fan of poem, so I am easily fascinated by the really good one. And this one is considered as a good one for its message!)
The Difference

“I did not like the way she was dressed when she entered my office. However, the look in her eyes revealed sadness and bewilderment that called for compassion and patience. She sat down and started sharing her concerns hoping to find answers with me.”
I listened to her long enough. I learned that she was an Arab girl who received her education in France where she was raised. It was also clear that she barely knew Islam. I started explaining basic facts, dispelling suspicions, answering questions and refuting orientalists’ lies about Islam. I also did not forget to allude to today’s civilization and how it considers women as cheap flesh. At the end of my talk, the girl asked for a future appointment and excused herself.
Soon after, a young man – on whom qualities of Outward Islamism were apparent – came storming into my office and said violently: “How come such wicked person was admitted here?” “The job of a physician is to accept. He doesn’t typically see healthy people, does he?” I replied.

Often we hear people spreading such ‘myth’ about how we are supposed to not to bother about other people’s life. But the thing is, our society have become so individualistic that people don’t even talk to their neighbor next door, there are even people who don’t know their neighbor being murdered until a smelly smells comes from the house next door.
If in Islam, we are encourage to remind each other,to warn each other in a manner which is constructive not just criticizing without any suggestions on how to improve their state – else that’s just some purposely attempts to downgrade the other, even towards the non muslims its not exceptional, we are to tell them about Islam even if its one ayat/word. Instead, most of us kept mum, afraid because we know that what in ourself is not enough,so what?
Tell what you know already & at the same time learn what you don’t know. We don’t need to wait to be some ‘ustaz/ustazah’ (religious people) to tell other people about Islam, we are muslims for God sakes!
