A Brief Story of Dajjal

Significance of talking about Dajjal
- Rasulullah s.a.w. said there’s time to come when there will be biggest trial ever. The time is when the Dajjal appear. (Narrated Ibn Majah)
- Hadith from Sahih Muslim- Rasul s.a.w. said Allah did not send any prophets without guiding them to remind people about the coming of Dajjal.
- Muhammad s.a.w. as the last prophet therefore bear the biggest/heaviest responsibility to talk about Dajjal and guide Muslims to be aware of the trial.
Dajjal in other religions:
- From Gospel of John (explanation about the coming of this biggest trial is very vague and appeared to be a lot of fabrications) .
- From Daniels of Judaism (mention the characteristics of the Dajjal in a very vague way like someone has dream about it and wrote it with lots of fabrications) .
Therefore, only Islam provided significance and clear details about Dajjal (through Al-Qur’an and Hadith from prophet s.a.w.). It is obligated then for Muslims to have no doubt whatsoever regarding Dajjal and the trial he will bring to humankind.
The term Dajjal came from back when the Arabs put smears to camel with tar, to cover the camels which have sick skin. By doing this, they deceive people that the camels are healthy and so that they could sell the camels. This form of deception is called Dajjala. The word Ad-Dajjal therefore is used to call a deceiver.
Signs & Characteristics of Dajjal
Rasul s.a.w. described this in detail found in authentic hadith
(Source: Sahih Bukhari)
- He is a human being
- Blind in right eye- the eyeball floating like grape, unstable, twitching in the socket
- left eye, green in colour like glass (glasses from the time of Prophet s.a.w. is green because of the chemical element in it)
- White reddish skin complexion
- Forehead protruded and neck very wide
- His back tend to be curved because of the powerful built muscles (like a hunchback)
- His feet is wide set apart, curl hair
- No children (sterile)
- Between his two eyes, all people including illiterates can read a word “kafara” on the surface.
- He appears in time when the world is heavily suffering from drought and starvation. The first year of suffering, 1/3 of rain decreases from earth. The second year of suffering, 2/3 of rain decreases from earth and on the last third year, there will be no rain— the time of full starvation.
- Dajjal will come to people claiming he is God with powers. People who are ignorance will be fooled by Dajjal’s power. With Allah’s permission, Dajjal’s power will be the greatest trials for Muslims.
Among his powers as mentioned in hadith include:
- when he commands to rain, it will rain
- when he commands for food to appear, it will appear
- he will show that he can resurrect a dead man, although in reality it was actually a black magic tricks where jinn appeared to be the man.
- he will show that he can bring back together a body that has been cut into half, and the man becomes alive.
- Dajjal also carries what appear to be garden from heaven (with white and cold rivers flowing) and pits from hellfire (like liquid fire)
- All treasures buried in earth came out wherever he goes
Dajjal will go to every places and cities except Madinah & Mekah. He will camped out outside Madinah calling for his followers (all disbelievers will follow him). At that time, there will be 3 earthquakes in Madinah.
For people who reject him, they will continue to suffer of starvation — trials for Muslims. One young Muslim believer who reject him are thrown to the “hellfire” the Dajjal carried. All people see the believer burnt in the fire but as Rasul s.a.w. has mentioned he is in fact in paradise (became the biggest martyrs of all).
Chronology:
- He will appear from the land of East called Khurasan
- Run into conflict between Syria & Iraq- create hazard there
- Followers include Jews (authentic hadith narrated from Anas bin Malik & Gospel also mention about this generally)
- Appear in 40 days. First day is like a year, second day is like a month, the third day is like a week.
- Dajjal will only appear after Mahdi has been established. At the time of the trials, Muslims forces become weak.
- Prophet Isa a.s. return. At Jerusalem, there will be battle between Dajjal followers and Muslims.
- Dajjal will be killed by Isa a.s.
- The rise of Islam.
How to defend ourselves from Dajjal?
1. Cling firmly to Islam (sincere & iman)
- Hypocrites & disbelievers will follow Dajjal (don’t be Muslim in
names but not in heart)
- Know Allah very well
2. Know the details about Dajjal
- Parents should teach their children about Dajjal
3. Memorize Surah Al-Kahf
- The first 10 verse or the last 10 verse (Sahih Muslim)
- Not parrot recitation but understand the meaning and reflection of
the story of Kahfi.
- It is sunat to recite Surah Al-Kahf on Friday Night
4. Pray, zikrullah and do’a
- Example: DOA FITNAH DAJJAL:
Diriwayatkan oleh Ibnu Abbas r.a bahawa Rasulullah s.a.w telah
5. When Dajjal appear, flee from him (go faraway)
- Rasul s.a.w. mentioned to run faraway from Dajjal. If you can go to
Madinah or Mekah, then go there. Don’t try to confront him face to
face as a strong believers can also be deceived by Dajjal (Hadith
narrated by Sunan Abi Daud).
Therefore, it is the duty for all Muslims to be aware and cling firmly
to Islam, not just to defend ourselves from Dajjal, but also to face
the trials and challenges in this world.
Please convey this message to others. Jazakallah. Wallahua’lam.
